Our Services
What's the biggest obstacle in keeping trails open? Any land manager will tell you, "We don't have the staff". Trails on public land require management. In many places mountain bikers are the largest segment of trail users and are in a great position to provide a valuable volunteer service while they're out riding. The Midwest Mountain Bike Patrol shares useful information with park rangers and land managers on things like:
- Trail conditions (trail erosion, downed trees, and large branches).
- User counts and types (number of riders, hikers, horseback riders seen on the trail).
- Trash and graffiti.
- New trail ideas (which may link existing trails into bigger, better loops or provide a way to get from one popular area to another).
Besides providing feedback to land managers and trail stewards, patrollers can pass on valuable information to mountain bikers and other trail users. Midwest Mountain Bike Patrollers explain park policies such as seasonal trail closures. A patroller may also explain to a new trail user the ecological importance of staying on designated trails in order to preserve the environment.
